Johann Caspar Lavater (1741-1801) played a key role in the study of physiognomy (face reading). Scrutinizing this work, Jacques Penry in the early 1940’s authored ‘Looking at Faces and Remembering Them’ a study that became part of the foundation of the photo-fit (identikit) system for Scotland Yard.

A frequently asked question ‘does face reading apply to all cultures’? The answer is Yes! The major differences are the flair of the nostrils, fullness and protruding lips, width of eye spacing.  A significant feature can be the spacing between the eyes as much as ten percent – wide set eyes indicates tolerance.
